Today, top-notch animation can be enjoyed through various forms, like television series, video games, movies, and commercials. Though animation is something that American companies are well-known for, Japanese animation or 'anime' has generated a huge fan base.
Japanese anime originated in 1917, with simple cartoon series, about characters from day-to-day life. Gradually, in the 1960s, the unique and distinct style of animation developed into the anime that is ruling today, and spread globally in the 1980s.
The distinct characteristics of anime include exaggerated physical features such as big hair, elongated limbs, and large eyes. They are accompanied by vivid story lines that borrow from Japanese folk literature, and sometimes straddle between the future, the past, and the present.
