The Ice Storm (1997)

Directed by Ang Lee, this movie is set on Thanksgiving day 1973. It is all about how two families are trying to cope with the political and social change that the United States was going through in the 70's and also about how each of them gets out from practices like drugs, alcoholism, and even sexual experimentation.

Pieces of April (2003)

Directed by Peter Hedges, it's about a girl, April, who tries to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for her family (probably the last dinner for her mother who is suffering from cancer), only to discover that her oven is broken. Find out how she manages to make the dinner with the help of her new friends and neighbors, and realizes the importance of having a family.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)

Directed by John Hughes, this comedy stars Steve Martin and John Candy, so rest assured that all you will get from this movie is laughter. It's about how Martin's character tries to go home for Thanksgiving, meets Candy's character, which leads to one disaster after another.

Scent of a Woman (1992)

This is about how a young student changes the life of a blind, medically retired army officer and how he saves his life. That same officer changes the life of the student for the better and finds out the woman who loves him truly.

The Next Three Days (2010)

This movie, directed by Paul Haggis, is a story about how a woman is accused of murder, and her husband (Russell Crowe) and their son try to free her from prison.
