Movies made for kids should not just be entertaining but they also need to have some educational value. Vivid portrayal of sequences, extreme imagination and at the same time simplicity of presentation are some of the important features of kids movies.
The kids movies have always brought the best in filmmakers, story writers, actors and the animation artists. Here, you can let loose your ideas and at the same time have a sense of responsibility so that you expose children to only value-based content. These days, there are many quality movies being made for kids with the help of computer animation.
In fact, the use of computer animation offers great scope for creativity and ease of manifestation of the wild and imaginative ideas suited to the children's world. Success of animated kids movies in recent years suggests that a new era of computer-animated films has begun.

The Lion King (1994)

This animated film (released in the year 1994) is deemed one of the best kids movies ever; the film has not only been acclaimed by critics, but also finds place in the list of highest grossing films created by Disney.
The Lion King was inspired by stories from the Bible and also the famous novel, 'Hamlet' (by William Shakespeare). A Golden Globe Award and two Academy Awards (for its music) along with box office business of $783 million indicates that the film was a great hit. This is one of the movies enjoyed by both kids and adults alike.

Ice Age Series

The Ice Age is a 2002 film produced by Blue Sky Studios; this computer-animated film is directed by Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha; the distribution work was carried out by 20th Century Fox.
Story of the film revolves around three Paleolithic animals - a mammoth, Smilodon and a sloth, who face a number of difficulties in their quest to return a lost human baby to its parents. Characters of animals are portrayed in a manner that they hold the attention of viewers. This film finds place in the list of best kids movies of all time.

The Black Stallion (1979)

It is a story of a boy named Alec Ramsay and a horse who forge a bond of friendship after surviving a shipwreck. After being shipwrecked, the boy and horse are stranded on an island where they stay for some time; soon the help arrives and they get back home.
Later on, with the help of a horse trainer, Henry Dailey, Alec starts training the stallion for the purpose of racing. This is an American movie directed by Carroll Ballard. 'The Black Stallion' is based on Walter Farley's novel with the same name.
Along with the portrayal of relationship between animals and human beings, the film is also appreciated for its artistic photography.

Toy Story Series

The Toy Story series includes 3 movies released in the years 1995, 1999 and 2010. The idea of toys secretly coming to life is smartly used in these films. The toys in these movies exhibit human emotions and qualities. 'Woody' and 'Buzz Lightyear' are the central figures in the Toy Story movies.
The events in these films depict how the toys get into trouble and find their way back by helping each other. All the movies were praised by movie critics and they also enjoyed commercial success. In fact, 'Toy Story 3' became the 8th highest-grossing movie of all time.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)

This film is based on Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont's novel, 'La Belle et la Bete'. The story is about a cursed prince transformed into a Beast. He must love and also be loved in order to overcome the curse. The Beast falls in love with a girl called Belle.
However, he has to go through a series hardships before winning the girl's love. The Beauty and the Beast, a huge box office success was also well received by critics. It was the first animated film nominated in the category of 'Best Picture' for the Academy Awards.

Harry Potter Series

A series of films based on the novels with same name written by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter movies have gained immense popularity in a short span of time.
The first three films in the series, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' (2001), 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' (2002) and 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' (2004) are especially suited for children. Such was the popularity and impact of Harry Potter movies at the box office that the last and seventh part had to be split into two.

Up (2009)

This is one of the best kids movies produced by Disney/Pixar. Although it is a kids movie, the story of 'Up' is intricately layered which makes it a good watch for adults as well. Children would definitely enjoy the adventures of Russell and Mr. Fredricksen (the central characters) and their journey to 'Paradise Falls', South America.
The movie speaks about pursuing your dreams, indulging into adventures, making friends and most importantly reconnecting with life. Thus, it is not just a fun ride, but also an artwork of great value.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

This is a musical fantasy film released in the year 1939. A novel written by L. Frank Baum with the same name is the basis used for this film. Florence Ryerson, Noel Langley and Edgar Allan Woolf wrote the script for 'The Wizard of Oz' while Victor Fleming directed it.

Superman (1978)

Released in the year 1978, Superman is based on a superhero character from DC Comics. Richard Donner directed the film while Christopher Reeve played the central character of superman. This movie presents the sequences starting from the origin of superman to his fights with Lex Luthor, the villain.

Shrek Series

Shrek is again a series of animated kids films with an 'ogre' as the central character. Created by Dream Works Animation Studios, the Shrek is a series of four movies. The four parts, namely Shrek, Shrek 2, 'Shrek the Third' and 'Shrek Forever After' were released in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010 respectively.

Finding Nemo (2003)

Created by Pixar Animation Studios, 'Finding Nemo' is a computer-animated film of year 2003. Story of this film was written by Andrew Stanton. Mr. Stanton and Lee Unkrich together directed the movie.
Finding Nemo won the 'Academy Award for Best Animated Feature' and also grossed $864 million at the box office. Story of this film revolves around a clownfish, Marlin searching for his son Nemo.

The Incredibles (2004)

It is a computer-animated movie released in 2004 which revolves around the theme of superheroes. Brad Bird, director of 'The Simpsons' had written the story for 'The Incredibles'; he also directed it. This computer-animated movie was produced by Pixar Animation Studios.
