Beautiful Quotes From the Movie Titanic

Ashmeet Bagga
We all are suckers for romantic movies, and when we talk about romance, how can we forget the movie Titanic? Remarkable events make heroes out of peasants, and sadly, adversity makes for fine storytelling. The story will take you on a trip down memory lane by remembering some memorable quotes from the movie Titanic.

Did You Know?

Author Morgan Robertson wrote a fiction novel called Futility or The Wreck of the Titan, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Titanic disaster. This book tells the story of the Titan, the largest ship ever built labeled as "unsinkable" (just like the Titanic), which sinks in the North Atlantic after its collision with an iceberg.
Both Titan and Titanic had fewer lifeboats, and hit their icebergs roughly at the same speed. What is really puzzling is that the book was published 14 years before the Titanic disaster.
'Titanic' is a romantic disaster film directed, written, partly-financed, and co-produced by James Cameron, released in the U.S. on December 19, 1997. It is based on the sinking of the RMS Titanic, Cameron had a fascination with shipwrecks, and he wanted to portray the sinking tragedy with the help of a love story interspersed with human loss.
Titanic was the most expensive film ever made back then, with an estimated budget of about USD 200 million. It was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, it was the first film to have two actors nominated for an Oscar for portraying the same character.
The film begins with an old woman named Rose Dawson Calvert being brought aboard a research vessel searching the wreck of the RMS Titanic. She is the woman in the drawings that the research team have found from the submerged Titanic. She then proceeds to narrate her experiences aboard the ship.
A young Rose Dewitt Bukater, played by Kate Winslet, a 17-year-old engaged (against her wishes) to Cal Hockley (Billy Zane). Her fiance gifts her the Heart of the Ocean necklace as an engagement gift.
She boards the ship as a first-class passenger and meets Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), who is a poor guy, and is drawn towards Rose at first sight. They meet for the first time when she tries to jump off the ship.
He talks her out of it, and they start spending time together. Gradually, they fall for each other, of course, her fiance and mother are against it, but this does not stop Rose, until one ill-fated day Titanic collides with an iceberg, and the ship is doomed, taking down thousands of people with her, including Rose and Jack.
As the ship is about to submerge, they find a wooden plank in the ocean wide enough for only one person.
Of course, Jack, being the gentleman, decides to stay in the water, and she climbs onto the plank. He gives her an assurance that she will die an old woman warm in her bed, he dies of hypothermia, but she is saved. The RMS Carpathia takes the survivors including Rose to New York.

"1,500 people went into the sea when Titanic sank from under us. Six were saved from the water, myself included. Six out of 1,500. Afterward, the 700 people in the boats had nothing to do but wait... wait to die, wait to live, wait for an absolution, which would never come." ― Old Rose
"But now you know that there was a man named Jack Dawson and that he saved me. He saved me in every way a person can be saved. I don't even have a picture of him. He exists now only in my memory." ― Old Rose
"And all the while I feel like I am standing in the middle of a crowded room, screaming at the top of my lungs, and no one even looks up."

"It was the ship of dreams to everyone else. To me it was a slave ship, taking me back to America in chains. Outwardly, I was everything a well brought up girl should be. Inside, I was screaming."
