In the 90's, some really outstanding movies were made and released. There were the ones that were based on concepts that were never seen earlier.
For instance, The Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump were something very new and unique. Then, there was Matrix, which totally changed the action movie genre. Animated films like The Lion King and Aladdin were also released during this time, which were a big hit at the box office.
Whenever, looking at any such top 10 list, most of them can be observed to be from the 90's. Also, these are not as old as the 70's or earlier period and not as new as the 2000's, so they are easy to relate to; also the fashion and filmmaking aspects, both are easy to understand and observe, and are enjoyable.Here are the top 10 magna opera of this decade.

The Shawshank Redemption

This is one of the favorite movies of many. It is based on a short story by Stephen King. This film was mostly shot inside a prison, and tells the story of two imprisoned men who bond over many years, and find eventual redemption through acts of decency.

Matrix

This is a brilliant action flick that won 4 Academy Awards, which is not just all about action, but also has a great and fresh storyline. It is about a computer hacker who learns about his true identity and his role.

Goodfellas

This Oscar-winning film was directed by Martin Scorsese. It tells the story of three people, who climb the ladder gradually from doing petty crimes to fierce murders.

The Usual Suspects

It might look very predictable, if you watch it now. But, the time it was released, it was a very fresh concept. The movie is about a crime and the usual suspects, and the mystery of finding the criminal.

Aladdin

This is the same old story of Aladdin, the boy, who found the magic lamp. However, Walt Disney tells it in a very entertaining manner. A must-watch.

Before Sunrise

This is a favorite romantic movie of many. It is about a French girl and an American guy, who meet on a Eurorail journey and have a memorable time.

The Sixth Sense

A brilliant movie, which is about a boy who can see dead people, for which he is seeking the help of a child psychologist. Beautiful acting by Haley Joel Osment as the boy, and child psychologist played by Bruce Willis.

Life Is Beautiful

Though the title of this film is Life Is Beautiful, which gives the basic idea to a person that it is happening, it is not. It is indeed full of scenes that bring tears to your eyes. This Oscar-winning film is about a Jewish man who uses sarcasm to protect his son in a Nazi death camp.

The Big Lebowski

This is a comedy movie, with humor that has never seen before. It is about 'Dude' a.k.a Lebowski who is mistaken for a millionaire with the same name, who goes to the millionaire to ask for the compensation of his ruined rug, and his buddies follow him to get it.

Forrest Gump

This Oscar-winning Hollywood flick tells the story about Forrest Gump, played by Tom Hanks. Forrest is not intelligent but still achieves name and fame in his life, though his true love keeps escaping.
